Mother’s Day For Single Mums

Mother’s Day For Single Mums
We are in the middle of mother’s week and I want to wish all
the mums out there a happy mother’s day! I think women are
seldom appreciated in the current society, despite the many
challenges they face each and every day.
Another group that is always looked down upon is the single
mums out there. I was listening to a discussion about this on
a local f.m station about single mothers. I was very happy about
what they were talking about which was about appreciating
single moms this mother’s week.
As you can imagine a lot of people who called in to contribute to
the discussion were single mums. One woman called in and gave
her heart wrenching experience in high school.
Here is the story,
Let us call this lady Jane. Back when she was in high school, Jane had
a close friend who is a boy, let us call him Mark. So Mark and Jane
were close friends who used to spend a lot of time with each other
and play around as friends. One day, Mark went over the board and
raped Jane.
A couple of months later, Jane realised that she was pregnant. She is
the last born in her family. All her other siblings who are older than her
had no drama compared to her and none of them had gotten pregnant
out of wedlock.
You can imagine the uproar she caused at home when her parents
realised that she was pregnant. They went berserk and it was too much
for her to handle. Jane ran away from home and walked more than 20
kilometres away from home.
As she was running away from home however, she had an epiphany and
decided to go back home after realising that her mother had supported
her and that running away from home would not help anything.
Now, she has forgiven the boy who raped her, she has forgiven herself
and her parents have learned to accept her and support the child. She is
as happy as can be. Jane wanted to encourage other single mums out
there that it is not the end of life when you get pregnant and the man
who got you pregnant does not want to take responsibility.
I also want to resound the same fact. Happy Mother’s Day Single Mums!

Remember the good old days when going to bed was the time you spent alone with your partner to talk about your day, get cuddly, and maybe more?
